The aim of the Blakeney Practice continues to be to offer traditional family medicine combined with the appropriate use of technology. We are committed to providing our patients with a high level of preventative medicine through appointments with either a doctor or nurse, face to face, or via the telephone. We also look after our own patients should they have been admitted to the local cottage hospital.
With the new GP contract now well established we are using computers during consultations, thus providing us with all our relevant patient information at the touch of a button. This enables us spending the consultation time with our patients rather than searching for information in old, sometimes heavy paper records and at the same time making sure that all data is stored appropriately complying with Goverment requirements.
Enhanced services will be offered at the surgery, but the PCT is not able to finance all the requests that we have made. Therefore patients will be required to travel for some services. We are however continuing to campaign on your behalf to increase local service provision. New services available so far are - Physio Direct at Lydney Hospital and Smoking Cessation Clinic at the surgery. Services that continue to be available at the surgery are:
- Monitoring of specialist drug therapy e.g. Warfarin, anti-rheumatic drugs and lithium
- Minor surgery - appointments are arranged with the doctor and nurse, and include joint injections and the removal of moles, warts, veruccae etc.

- Contraception services
- Endometrial biopsy
- Sigmoidoscopy
- Venesection
- Child Health Surveillance
- Health Visitor Clinic
- District Nurse Service
- spirometry (breathing test)
- ECG (heart test)
- 24hr ambulatory blood pressure monitoring.
- chronic disease monitoring
