A new heart for Blakeney
2.5 years ago Rose Peaty recognised that there was no easily accessible outside space for Blakeney locals to use and decided that it was time to do something about it. She came up with a plan to create an even track around the playing fields that would allow people to walk safely and away from the roads.
After applying for funding from the lottery and Gloucestershire Environmental Trust it has now not only overseen the creation of a 400 metre track around the playing fields but a further adjoining 400 metre path into the forest, the Otter Holt café, a play area for children and a car park!
The area now offers something for everybody, from those who fancy getting up and out of the house for a short period of gentle exercise, to mums who need a pram- friendly walk and children’s playarea. Blakeney Surgery runs a ‘Walk for Health’ group on the paths on Thursdays at 2:00pm, and the local schools are starting a project building birdboxes and monitoring wildlife.
